BIOGRAFIA
Ayobola Kekere-Ekun (n. 1993) è un’artista visiva contemporanea. Nata a Lagos, in Nigeria. Ha conseguito il B.A. e M.A. in arti visive nel Dipartimento di arti creative, dell’Università di Lagos, dove si è specializzata in Graphic Design. Attualmente sta seguendo un dottorato in Arte e Design presso l’Università di Johannesburg, Sudafrica.
Kekere-Ekun lavora prevalentemente con una tecnica nota come quilling, in cui strisce di carta sono individualmente modellate per creare forme. Il suo lavoro è fortemente influenzato da esperienze e osservazioni personali. Si interessa in particolare di argomenti legati al genere, alla mitologia, alla memoria e ai traumi personali.
Il lavoro di Kekere-Ekun è stato esposto in diverse fiere ed esposizioni in tutto il mondo, tra cui Latitudes Art Fair Johannesburg (2024), Arte Fiera, Bologna (2023) e SCOPE Miami Beach (2021). La sua prima mostra personale nel 2019, "Resilient Lines" alla Rele Gallery, è stata supportata dalla Dean Collection, una collezione di arte contemporanea creata da Alicia Keys e Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean). Kekere-Ekun è stato anche vincitore del premio ABSA L’Atelier nel 2021.
